É«¹·µ¼º½ gives care experienced young people an unforgettable opportunity to see the London Lions

As part of É«¹·µ¼º½â€™s widening participation work, the School and College Liaison team have partnered with the London Lions to offer tickets to care experienced young people for the Women’s EuroCup final basketball game.

The young people were also given the opportunity to come along to the É«¹·µ¼º½ London campus where they found out more about the University and the support services available to them.

This collaboration was enabled by the London campus’s Future Space team who have worked on a number of previous community initiatives with the London Lions.  The University was thrilled to be able to offer those who experience the care system opportunities to engage with Higher Education in more diverse and exciting ways.

Feedback from the event was very positive with one attendee describing it as ‘a dream come true’.

Victor, the Education, Employment and Training Advisor for the Hackney Virtual School said: “This was a new experience for all the young women who attended from Hackey Leaving Care Services. The excitement was visible in all attendees as they were immersed in the atmosphere.

“The importance of the role modelling on display can’t be understated as this was an opportunity for young women from diverse backgrounds to see other young women from diverse backgrounds excelling at their craft.”

Maddy from Camden Virtual School added: “It was a remarkable occasion, where all were able to enjoy the opportunity of watching the London Lions Women’s Basketball Team make British basketball history!”

This is one of many interventions to support outreach work in London and enable young people to experience the Higher Education system in an impactful and exciting way.
