Postgraduate research

Doctoral research is essential to train future leaders, and advance fundamental knowledge relevant to modern, low-emission combustion systems.

Fully-Funded PhD Studentships with NCCAT

In NCCAT we offer several fully funded studentships per year on our Roll-Royce PhD Cluster programme at 色狗导航. We welcome applications from high quality graduate students who wish to conduct world class research at the forefront of future propulsion and energy technologies. These studentships are delivered in close collaboration with Rolls Royce, offering researchers the unique opportunity to contribute to challenges directly relevant to the next generation of aerospace propulsion systems.

New projects are always being developed to support the research at NCCAT and our industrial partners such as Rolls-Royce. Projects can range from the fundamental physics to more applied engine applications, can encompass advanced experimental techniques, high fidelity numerical modelling, and the development of low order models. Recent topics include investigations of the compressor-combustor interface, fuel injector design, fuel sprays and atomisation, flame stabilisation, combustion instabilities, cooling flows, fundamental combustor design, altitude relight, combustor-turbine interactions, and the use of alternate fuels (SAFs and hydrogen).

Ashley van Bruygom explains her research into the better understanding of hydrogen combustion for the future of low emission aviation.
