A specialist fibre optic contractor will carry out essential work to divert blown fibre optic cables in Central Park. It is crucial to raise awareness among all teams involved in development work on these buildings. Any damage to the existing fibre will result in a complete loss of networking access, including both wired and Wi-Fi connections, until the temporary fibre for dual resilience is installed.  

*Please note that FM Yard and Holywell Drive Houses will remain on a single link fibre connection for up to two months. This will continue until further excavation works are completed to provide ducting within the New Student Accommodation site boundary.

By way of a reminder, this forms part of the planned reconfiguration of the area to support all鈥慸ay parking for Staff. The new barrier will operate as 别虫颈迟鈥憃苍濒测, meaning that all vehicles must enter the car park via the main route past the security gatehouse and around the rear of the Students’ Union building. 

This change is being introduced to ensure that only bona fide University staff and visitors can access and use the car park.

Essential maintenance is required to support the replacement of a failed heating control valve in Core K, which is currently impacting business operations.

The first phase of work involves the installation of new isolation points within the heating system. These isolations are necessary to allow the control valves to be replaced safely during the subsequent phase of works.

To complete this initial phase safely, the heating system serving Core K will be isolated for the duration of the week, resulting in a temporary loss of heating to:

• Air Handling Units (AHUs) in Cores K, J, and H
• Central heating circuits serving Cores K, J, and H

During Phase 1, no heating will be available to the AHUs or central heating systems in Cores K, J, and H. Occupants may experience lower internal temperatures, depending on weather conditions and building usage.

WHY DOES THE WORK NEEED TO BE DONE

E&FM will shortly be installing a series of pedestrian barriers at several locations on campus, including:

• Along the pedestrian routes on Margaret Keay Road (between Bridgeman and the Edward Herbert Building)
• Along a section of University Road, from the Student Accommodation Centre down the hill towards the Herbert Manzoni Building
• At selected points on Margaret Keay Way

These barriers are being introduced to help guide pedestrians towards the designated safe crossing points located at the crossroads where University Road meets Margaret Keay Road and Margaret Keay Way.

This work forms an important part of the traffic management plan associated with the construction of the new student accommodation development. By funnelling foot traffic to controlled crossing points, the measures aim to improve safety for pedestrians and reduce conflict with construction and campus vehicle movements during the project period.

Electrical Testing of all electrical circuits within the building.
