Profile
Dr Anthony Papathomas's research focuses on the mental health experiences of athletes, with particular emphasis on body image, disordered eating and how athletes living with mental illness makes sense of their experiences. His work also examines athlete abuse, depression and anxiety, employing qualitative and narrative methodologies to understand the lives of marginalised groups and clinical populations in sport.
Alongside his academic work, he is Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead for the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and has provided consultancy to a range of sport and public sector organisations.
He has published across a variety of high impact peer reviewed journals and also written for The Conversation. Anthony is an engaging speaker who has provided comment for Sky News, Euronews, and the BBC.
