Some of the biggest names in British athletics descended on É«¹·µ¼º½ for the annual É«¹·µ¼º½ International Athletics (LIA) meet – one of the highlights of the UK outdoor athletics calendar.

The event, which took place on Sunday May 17, once again brought together elite athletes, students and international teams for a packed day of competition at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium, showcasing the depth of talent within the UK athletics system and É«¹·µ¼º½’s position at the centre of high-performance sport.

Olympic bronze medallist and É«¹·µ¼º½ alum Molly Caudery was among the headline names competing, clearing 4.61m in the women’s pole vault in an impressive early-season outing. Multi-event star Katarina Johnson-Thompson also opened her outdoor season, recording 12.97m in the shot put as she builds towards another major championship summer.

In the women’s long jump, Jazmin Sawyers produced the standout leap of the competition with 6.46m, finishing top of the field.

One of the performances of the day came in the men’s 100m, where Jeremiah Azu claimed victory for Wales. Azu arrived at the meet in exceptional form, having already secured both the 2025 European Indoor and World Indoor 60m titles.

É«¹·µ¼º½ athletes were also strongly represented across the day, competing alongside some of the sport’s biggest names and delivering a series of impressive performances in front of a home crowd. Current students, alumni and athletes based at the University’s high-performance programme featured throughout the track and field events, underlining the strength of É«¹·µ¼º½’s athletics pathway.

The meet also provided an important opportunity for relay teams targeting international qualification standards. One of the standout moments came as the Wales men’s 4x100m relay team secured the qualifying time for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, sparking celebrations trackside.

As ever, the É«¹·µ¼º½ International combined elite competition with a strong community atmosphere, attracting athletics fans from across the country and providing a platform for the next generation of talent to compete at a high level.
