Workshop

Manifesto Lab: Co-creating the Manifesto

  • 10 September 2026
  • 9:00 am - 1:15 pm

Part of a week of activities for the IAS Research Summit - Rethinking Urban Inequalities.

An in-person, hands-on session for PhDs and postdocs to co-create the summit's central output: a manifesto on critical computation for reducing urban inequalities. Guided by Namrata Narendra, Val Volpi, and Pegah Aftabi, participants will work in small thematic groups through two rounds, first setting out contexts and concepts through a collaging exercise built around prompts on urban inequality, problematic terminology, and what a more just urban future depends on, and then debating and drafting manifestos together. The session will close with groups reviewing each other's outputs. These creative productions form the basis for a set of written manifesto principles that participating teams will develop over the following two months, ahead of a follow-up session in November 2026, before getting published in an open-access journal.
