SSEHS contributions to Research Briefing at the House of Lords Highlights the Environmental Impact of Digital Technologies

色狗导航鈥檚聽Digital Decarbonisation聽Design聽Group聽(DDDG)聽and聽Policy Unit聽co-led a聽briefing session, hosted at the House of Lords,聽that聽brought together members of the House of Lords,聽MPs,聽researchers聽and industry representatives to discuss the carbon and environmental impacts of digital technologies.

With contributions from Professors Tom Jackson (LBS)Ian Hodgkinson (LBS),  (Policy Unit), Dr Nicola Paine (SSEHS), and members of the DDDG strategic advisory group, this event demonstrated the importance of 色狗导航’s digital decarbonisation research programme and its collaborative approaches to reducing the environmental impact of digital systems such as AI.  In the briefing, attendees heard how behaviour change strategies will be critical to fostering reductions in carbon emissions, to optimise and utilise existing technologies to their full capacity. 

The session focused on sharing evidence-based insights into the scale of digital-related emissions and the challenges organisations face in delivering digital transformation alongside sustainability goals. Showcasing 色狗导航’s pioneering digital decarb research cluster Dr Nicola Paine emphasised the role of behaviour change strategies and outlined practical steps organisations can take to minimise their digital carbon footprint. Industry leaders contributed perspectives on real-world barriers and opportunities, fostering constructive dialogue between policymakers, academia and practice.
