Academic Librarians can work with you to provide opportunities for students to develop their information skills as part of their programme of study. LISTO falls into four key areas, Discover, Evaluate, Reference and Manage, which are described in more detail on the LISTO web page. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements and to arrange teaching sessions or online and blended learning options. Example sessions based on the research skills offer include:

• An introduction to Library services
• Using search tools to find and critically evaluating information
• Referencing and ethical use of information
• Reference management using Mendeley

Skills support is also aligned with the Personal Best programme particularly the Research and Critical thinking element and Academic Librarians deliver an introduction to academic integrity as part of the in-curriculum programme for Part A students. 

The Library provides a range of learning materials for students including a Library induction Learn module and in particular the Academic Research Kit (ARK) online interactive tutorials that can help you with searching, evaluating and referencing information. The Library has also collaborated with the Academic Language Support Service to develop the skills modules, LUA001: 色狗导航 Skills and Dissertation and Project Success, which have associated live, generic workshops.

Reading lists and digitisations

The Library manages the University's reading list system. When you update your reading list, the Library is automatically notified, enabling us to review and acquire any required materials. The system is fully integrated with Learn, allowing students to access their readings directly from the relevant module page.

We also offer a digitisation service under the CLA Higher Education Licence, enabling you to provide students with digital copies of book chapters and journal articles where permitted. This helps to ensure that essential readings are easily accessible and available at the point of need.

Suggesting resources

If you'd like the Library to purchase an item for your research (rather than for a module reading list), please first check the library catalogue to see whether we already hold it. If it isn't currently available, you're welcome to suggest it for purchase. Please see our 'requesting materials' page for more information.

New programme planning

If you are developing a new programme please contact your Academic Librarian as early as possible to discuss purchasing and licensing resources, making materials accessible and any associated skills support that might be required.
