Explore opportunities to undertake a PhD, develop a fellowship or continue your research career with ARAMP
ARAMP welcomes students and researchers who are interested in developing new ways of using and monitoring ionising radiation. We are a multidisciplinary group, and relevant experience may come from physics or related areas such as engineering, materials science, computing and healthcare research.
We welcome enquiries from people with different backgrounds and career paths, including those returning to research after a career break.
Current opportunities
Funded PhD projects and employment opportunities within ARAMP will be listed here when they are available.
If there are no suitable opportunities currently advertised, you can explore the routes below. These are not exhaustive, and other opportunities may be available to you depending on your circumstance.
Before contacting ARAMP, please identify a specific project, scholarship, fellowship or funding route and check its eligibility requirements. We cannot assess your eligibility for a scheme or identify funding on your behalf, and we are unlikely to be able to respond usefully to general enquiries asking whether funding is available. Please include a brief outline of your research interests, relevant experience, the route or scheme you are considering and your intended timescale.
Researchers interested in discussing a more senior research opportunity are welcome to contact us directly.
Funding options for PhDs
Before getting in touch, explore our research programmes and consider how your interests and experience might fit with ARAMP’s work.
Some advertised PhD projects have funding attached, while other applicants will need to secure funding or support themselves. We may also be able to consider proposals for PhD research that is not currently advertised, where the proposed topic fits ARAMP’s research interests and the applicant has an appropriate background.
Self-funded and government-funded applicants are welcome to contact us to discuss their research interests and whether ARAMP would be a suitable fit. If you are interested in undertaking a PhD with the group but do not yet have funding, the links below may give you some ideas.
Institute of Physics Bell Burnell Graduate Scholarship Fund
Supports students from groups under-represented in physics who wish to complete a physics doctorate. Applications are typically open from October – mid-January.
Commonwealth Scholarships
Scholarships available for applicants for certain eligible Commonwealth countries. Applications typically open in October – November. Split site scholarships are also available, which would let you spend a year studying in the UK as part of a PhD in your home country.
Fulbright-色狗导航 Award
An agreement between the Fulbright Commission and 色狗导航 offers the opportunity for a US Postgraduate research student to receive a fully-funded 3 year studentship. Applications are made via your Home University in the US, with a deadline in early January. You will need a letter of support from us as part of your application, so get in touch early to discuss potential projects.
Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowships
Awarded to women from developing and emerging countries to pursue PhD research in STEM subjects. Applications typically open from September - November.
Elite Athlete Scholarships
This is a three-year studentship covering UK tuition fees and a stipend, and is a fantastic opportunity for those who want to pursue research alongside their sporting development.
The Sports Development Centre nominate individuals who are competing in 色狗导航 performance programmes, who are either targeting a major senior international event, have a realistic opportunity of competing at senior international level within 18 months, or who can demonstrate the potential to make a significant contribution to 色狗导航’s sporting success.
Contact us first to discuss possible projects. Applications should then be made to 色狗导航 Sport around May.
Postdoctoral and fellowship positions
We are open to enquiries from researchers who would like to develop a fellowship application with ARAMP as the proposed host group. Please contact us at an early stage with a brief research outline, your CV, the fellowship scheme you are considering and its expected timetable. Our ability to support an application will depend on its fit with ARAMP’s research, the availability of appropriate supervision and facilities, the likely competitiveness of the proposal against the scheme’s criteria, and the relevant University approval process.
