Our people
Led by Centre Director Professor Jon Carrotte, NCCAT has more than 100 years’ combined expertise in supporting the development of future gas turbine combustion systems as well as technologies in other aerothermal and combustion applications. The expertise spans fluid mechanics, gas turbine design, advanced test rigs, computational fluid dynamics and a range of measurement techniques.
Academics
Prof Walker’s research targets a reduction in the environmental impact of aviation. He focusses on the aerothermal study of gas turbines combustion systems and the interfacing components.
Dr Xia’s research focuses on modelling and high-fidelity simulation of flow-induced instability, noise and heat transfer phenomena found in engineering problems, e.g. gas turbine combustors.

Researchers
Dr Leiva's work is focused on the experimental and CFD study of gas turbine combustion system aerodynamics, as well as the design and development of experimental rigs to support said research.
Dr Wetherell is working on the design and simulation of future hydrogen powered combustion systems for civil aerospace. He is also working on atomisation and sprays modelling capability.
